Feb. 13th, 2018 11:54 amHow not to alienate your lawyer's whole office before you even retain them, a handy guide:
--Don't yell at the legal assistant over the phone that you need a lawyer RIGHT NOW ASAP, then complain because the lawyer you were referred to is not available on 20 minutes' notice and you'll be meeting with the new partner instead.
--Don't refuse to give a time for when you're coming in. "I'll be there in like a half-hour" is not helpful.
--Don't bring your 4-year-old with you to a consult about which parent they will be living with.
--Don't respond to a query about payment with "Oh, my uncle will pay" and hand me his phone number.
--Don't (again) yell at the legal assistant when your uncle responds to being called with "WTF do you mean, I'm paying for her lawyer?"
--Don't make the legal assistant babysit the 4-year-old while you scream at your uncle over the phone for ten minutes and the attorney discreetly closes his office door.
In short, she left with muttered apologies because she did not, after all, have money for a consult. I hope everything works out for her (and the 4-year-old was a sweet and charming kid), but mercy, be prepared if you're going to consult an attorney--that includes having a valid payment method to hand.
Yeats got a query from an agent, and is sending his Non-Paladin Project (a lighter fantasy, first book written, second book in process, projected 5-book series) to them! Fingers crossed!
