A gently-tipsy Mother's Day
May. 14th, 2018 11:45 amYeats and I took his mom out to dinner on Saturday night, as she will not settle for the average Mother's Day brunch melee (and neither would we). We went to a lovely place that specializes in pairing wines with each course, and listened with interest as the server explained the price fixe menu.
Server: You can have four courses, with or without the wine pairings, and you can mix and match the courses. While you can't have more than one entree, you can have multiple starters, soup and salad...
Yeats: Good, that means I can get two starters and order Scotch for dessert instead.
Me: Everything looks great!
MiL: I will have the cream of crab soup, the chicken entree, and two desserts, to be chosen after my entree, thank you.
Server: I like your style!
Everything was in fact delicious (I had a charcuterie board with rosemary goat cheese and cured pork loin, chickpea salad, shrimp and grits, and flourless chocolate cake), including the wines, and MiL left with her second dessert and a bottle of rose under her arm, and was well-pleased. I called my mom last night, and we talked books and Masterpiece Theater adaptations and got caught up. I wish I could have taken her out for dinner as well.
Reading Log: Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli; Queens of Fennbirn by Kendare Blake; The Dark Calling by Kresley Cole; Ask a Manager by Alison Green; As Death Draws Near by Anna Lee Huber; The Spinster's Guide to Scandalous Behavior by Jennifer McQuiston; Noir by Christopher Moore
