Dover Comic-Con went well (23 books sold, including the first copies of Crusade!), but oh holy crap, we are sunburnt. The forecast of general overcastness transformed swiftly into "partly- to mostly-sunny and over 90 degrees!", and despite liberal applications of sunscreen, Yeats and I have gone from vividly pink to merely pink to very, very peeling over the course of a week. We're doing it again next year, and we are investing in an awning. Next weekend, we shall be sufficiently awned at the Maryland Ren Faire. Come see us (and acclaimed author Eleanor Herman) on the Sunday before Labor Day at Page After Page bookstall! I will be in a corset, Yeats will be in a kilt, and we know the MDRF sufficiently to point you towards the good beer tents.
We spent today down at my mother-in-law's making her paella, as was her belated birthday request, because Yeats makes delicious paella. She invited her brother and sister and their spouses to join in, which led to a lot of enjoyment, and old Uncle B looking warily at his plate and inquiring what precise kind of sausage this was (chorizo). I enjoyed seeing them all, even though A) Aunt C loves to tell grandchild stories, and B) standing between Aunt C and MiL Mary while they're having a conversation is like standing between two speakers at a rock concert; there is no low volume. My ears are still faintly ringing.
And now I have earned my glass of Riesling, while Hector purrs near me.
