Today was spent at Mary's for Nephew Rob's ninth birthday. It went well--the kids were well-behaved (even nephew J, who is still 3 and has all the blithe narcissism being 3 entails), Yeats did not have to cook one single thing, and Rob was overjoyed at his gift, a Nerf gun almost as tall as he is. I also had a fun discussion with Queen Liz, who confided very seriously that she is looking forward to seeing the first settlers on Mars, and questioned how we are going to get air and food and trees to them, which I answered as best I could ("Aunt Grey, what was that word you used...terraforming?"). My sweet girl, I hope the future you're anticipating is as bright as you see it. If I can help make it so, I will.

We received our passports, and our Ireland tickets are booked! Now comes the process of locating hotel rooms in Dublin (all we need is a bed to call our own, a functioning bathroom, and breakfast would be a plus!), and deciding on exactly what we want to see and how far afield we're willing to travel. I would also like access to somewhere with pastry for my birthday. All the pastry. It seems a reasonable celebration for turning 40.

The unwanted former client Aveline was going to have to represent has somehow magically found enough money to retain an attorney of his choosing. Great! Have fun with that, you're still an abusive dick, and your child has already said some fascinating things! No longer our circus or our monkeys, tra la la.

Tomorrow is for laundry and reading, because I don't care one single bit about football. Yeats and I are going to go out early for carry-out Indian and lager, eat our body weight in vindaloo and samosa chaat, and have a quiet evening at home.
