And the sun came out, too!
May. 20th, 2018 10:37 pmWeekend started unexpectedly early, when a giant tree came down about a quarter-mile from our office due to a week of steady rain and storms, and took out all of our power, phone, and Internet a little after 11am. Aveline was off at a friend's wedding in the Caribbean for the weekend, so Anders and I did as much as we could in the semi-dark, and upon finding out that between the tree and other local outages, nothing was going to be back up until about 4pm, shrugged and decided this was a sign from the universe. I got myself some lunch, did the grocery shopping early, and beat Yeats home--he walked in to find me on the couch with a book, a beer, and Hector purring in my lap.
Just a weekend of small home things. We played our Adventures in Middle Earth game this afternoon, with Yeats GMing and a cast of seven characters, all meeting up in a Google Hangout, since we're in Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Michigan, and California. We cooked a lot, and I may throw caution to the wind next weekend and bake a strawberry-rhubarb pie while there's rhubarb to be had--Yeats doesn't have to eat any of it if he's in a "sugar is evil and so is any joy in food" kind of mood. I planted three basil plants in three separate areas out back (small pot, large pot, clear patch in back garden), and two of them look to be taking secure root. We hit our local Toys'R'Us to take (slightly-guilty) advantage of the closing sales, and walked out with all the nieces and nephews set up for Christmas. We made a solemn pact that we will see "Solo" next weekend come hell or high water. And I may have squeed quietly over pictures from the royal wedding.
Catchup tomorrow is going to be...not hell, since Aveline won't be back 'till Wednesday and Anders' schedule isn't heavy in the coming week. But probably heck.
Reading Log: The Greatest Risk by Kristen Ashley; Old Black Magic by Ace Atkins; Losers Bracket by Chris Crutcher; Dread Nation by Justine Ireland; The Devil in Silver by Victor LaValle; Kings of the North by Elizabeth Moon; The Tiger's Daughter by K. Arsenault Rivera; Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young
