Lovely weekend at the Faire! It was overcast and cool, but not rainy, and that kept the crowds down to merely a throng rather than a horde. We shopped and shopped, accruing not just our usual purchases of herbs and soaps and high-quality catnip and local honey, but small shiny splurges. And one large shiny splurge--Yeats found a long handmade coat in hunter green and grey and black that he looks magnificent in, and I persuaded him that a man's 40th birthday and 11th anniversary only come once (at least the 11th anniversary had better only come once). He fully intends to wear it for this weekend's Long-Awaited Party, and I encourage this. We also saw the falconry show, petted many dogs (the Faire has adjusted its policy on dog attendance, and we met many excellent and well-behaved doggos), Yeats signed up for a glassblowing lesson and made his own glass pumpkin, and we cooed over the Forge Cats at one of the smithies. One orange dude just slept right through a hammering demo, his belly turned towards the heat, while a tiny tortie kitten named Smidge found someone's unattended pot roast cone (a pastry cone filled with mashed potatoes, pot roast, and gravy) and thought she'd gone to kitty heaven. All the Forge Cats had collars and harnesses, btw, and were attended at all times; they were in no danger. And I, in a moment of heroic bravery, did not scream and run away when a wasp dive-bombed directly into my beer, but instead with great composure splashed the wasp out with about half the beer, and let it die a soggy and drunken death on the ground while I finished my drink.

Back to real life. Aveline has a hectic week, and then next week, she's taking time off to go be with her dad while he has chemo. Anders has a slightly less-hectic week, but next week he has two supreme court briefs due, and there are blocks of time on his calendar just labelled "NO". I will man the phones, answer the emails, and be professional. This weekend is the Party, and I will bake ALL THE THINGS (okay, only three pies, but that's a lot of pie) and look forward to seeing friends.

I love the new Doctor, I like Ryan and Yaz and Graham, Grace deserved better.
